Rachel Villanueva, MD

Rachel Villanueva, M.D. is a Board Certified Clinical Assistant Professor of OB/GYN at the NYU Grossman School of Medicine, who is currently in private practice in New York City. She received her Bachelor of Science in Biology from Yale College, and graduated cum laude from the Yale University School of Medicine where she was awarded the National Prize in Women’s Health by Wyeth-Ayerst/National Medical Fellowships.

Dr. Villanueva completed her residency in OB/GYN at the New York Hospital-Weil Cornell Medical Center.

Dr. Villanueva is an advocate for women’s health and reproductive justice, who is committed to health equity and access for the underserved, the elimination of health disparities, health education and disease prevention. She has been an active member of the National Medical Association, serving at all levels of the organization, including nationally as Chair and Secretary of the Board, Speaker of the House of Delegates Chair on the Council on Concerns of Women Physicians and is a member of the OB/GYN Section. Most recently, she was elected National President-Elect, becoming the first former National SNMA President to hold this position. She currently serves as a member of the Executive Committee of the Association of Yale Alumni in Medicine, and has previously served as a delegate to the Yale Alumni Association, on the Advisory Board to the NYU Langone Medical Center Office of Diversity Affairs, the Professional Advisory Council for Health Power for Minorities, as Co-Editor of the Women’s Health Channel. Dr. Villanueva has also served as a Professional Board Member to the Student National Medical Association and member of their Strategic Planning Council. She served as a member of the Solosec Steering Committee and BV Consensus Panel & Advisory Board prior to its launch, and was features in their media campaign to increase awareness and dispel the stigma surrounding Bacterial Vaginosis. She is a Fellow of the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology, serving on its Pregnancy and Heart Disease Task Force in 2018, and currently on the District 2 Health Equity Subcommittee of the Safe Motherhood Initiative. She has participated in international health work in Harare, Zimbabwe including everything from direct patient care on the OB/GYN wards to HIV transmission and prevention education. In recognition of her service, she has received numerous local and national awards including the Council on Concerns of Women Physicians Service Award, the NMA Region 1 Service award, and since 2006, has been named as one of the Top Black Physicians in New York City yearly by The Network Journal.

Dr. Villanueva is a native New Yorker and first generation American of Haitian descent. She is an avid snowboarder, Bikram Yogi and novice tennis player.
